Stitched Broom Workshop

Stitched Broom Making is coming to Frome on the 24th January. This workshop is another traditional technique in brush making which amalgamates woodwork and brush making.

This full day workshop will include a woodland walk to find the perfect wooden handle for your broom, and then taking it back to the studio to form it, and stitch your fibre into the handle. Fibres to stitch into your broom will be either a stiffer Sugar Palm fibre, or a softer Agave fibre. You will go home with your handmade broom to use around your home or garden.

The traditional name for stitched brooms is a ‘Wire Drawn Setting’ and this is one of the oldest ways of holding bristles into a wooden handle as it requires no adhesive, simply the tension of the wire holds all the bristles in place.
